Have You Heard of 2-Step Verification? Many of us use a password to access our email or social media accounts. Unfortunately, criminals can sometimes steal or guess passwords. 2-Step Verification adds an extra security check. Even if someone knows your password, they should not be able to get into your account without a second code that is sent to your phone or generated by an app. Think of it like this: 🏠 Your password is the front door key. 🔒 2-Step Verification is a second lock on the door. Having both makes it much harder for a criminal to get in. Why Is It Important? If a criminal gets into your email account, they may be able to: • Read your personal emails • Reset passwords on other accounts • Pretend to be you • Use your account to scam your friends and family Adding 2-Step Verification helps prevent this. How Do I Turn It On? For most email and social media accounts: Step 1 Sign in to your account. Step 2 Look for Settings. Step 3 Find Security or Privacy. Step 4 Look for 2-Step Verification, 2FA, or Two-Factor Authentication. Step 5 Follow the instructions on the screen. You may be asked to: ✅ Enter your mobile phone number ✅ Receive a text message with a code or ✅ Install an authentication app Which Accounts Should I Protect?
